Fiscal Sponsorship: An Overview of Charitable Projects
What is a Charitable Project?
The main type of fiscal sponsorship is known as a Charitable Project (aka Model A). A Charitable Project is a fund or program established for a charitable purpose between a recognized 501(c)(3) Fiscal Sponsor and the person or entity contracting with the Fiscal Sponsor. The person or entity contracting the Fiscal Sponsor is known as the Fiscal Sponsee. All charitable funds donated to the project must be received through the Sponsor(and not Sponsee). The Sponsor will then disburse funds only to advance charitable purposes. It is deemed a public charity and must file its IRS Form 990 each year.
